Happy Heavenly Birthday Rosie!

Today’s Postcard Message From Hobbes, Rosie and Kathmandu

April 17,  2026

Rosie’s pick today as this is the anniversary of her birthday. What message would you like to share with us today Rosie?

Card: - 55 -  Found Food

As we were selecting her card I could hear her say “I like pancakes” Such a perfect card to acknowledge what would have been her 13th birthday. Last year we celebrated with pancakes,  pupcakes  and home made biscuits!

This year we still celebrated with special treats for Simba and Ggizzmo and a pupper friendly cake that we could all share.

Last year (2025)I posted this on Facebook “Happy Birthday Rosie!”

A few days ago I had a very important discussion with Rosie. “Do you want pupcakes for your birthday?”  She replied with one of her trademark mumbles. “Do you want pancakes for your birthday?” Another Rosie mumble. “Do you want homemade mini donuts for your birthday?” Silence. “Do you want homemade biscuits for your birthday?” A Rosie mumble. Today on her 12th birthday she has enjoyed blueberry pancakes and she had pupcakes (vanilla cupcakes) with Simba and Ggizzmo. Homemade pumpkin and pineapple biscuits have been made and are cooling slowly in the oven.

Rosie gets to be the first to wear the new Happy Birthday bandana that I made. We never know how many more special days are ahead, so it is important to celebrate them. In fact it is beneficial to celebrate as often as possible whether there is a special occasion or not.

This card is setup like a jigsaw puzzle with the various images of food items that I “found” in my travels, most on walks around our home city.

Squashed pepper or tomato -  one of those powder candy holders

Blue smiley face cup - a reminder to keep smiling and finding moments of happiness

Popsicle mould- found on a bus bench, possibilities for a tasty frozen treat

Juice cup with apple juice - this was discovered in a Disney park

Frozen red pepper - a frozen treat or future compost

Pumpkin candy container - another powder candy container and a festive Halloween Jack-o-lantern

Raisin bread   - another tasty treat often a comfort food…remember no raisins for puppers!

Heart shaped granola - a healthy snack carrying a message of “I love you”

Mug and egg shells - containers one to hold a beverage and another that held nutritious food and can now become compost

Sushi - rice and black sesame seeds, a somewhat more exotic food for many and a normal food for others

Lollipop - a fun sweet treat and sometimes a reward

Olives -  scattered in the snow from a broken jar, an unusual find of a food that some love and some hate

Each of these can have meaning and messages.

What image stands out?

Does it whisper something to you?

Sometimes the messages are very quiet and subtle.

Take the time to pause and listen.
